Dr Akuaake’s record of early career achievements include Head of the Intensive Care Unit at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital for two years, founder and chair of the hospital’s resuscitation committee and a key member of the hospital’s disaster management planning committee.
Her interest in research resulted in making a notable impact by publishing a paper in the prestigious British Medical Journal. Additionally, her interest in global emergency medicine led her to present at the Access Symposium of Virginia Commonwealth University of the USA.
Throughout her registrar training, Dr. Akuaake has worked in over 6 emergency units in Cape Town, gaining valuable experience in high-pressure environments. Her time at Groote Schuur Hospital and Tygerberg Hospital’s trauma units, intensive care units, and paediatric units has equipped her with a unique understanding of the complexities of emergency care.
Dr. Akuaake’s passion is centred on making emergency care accessible and equitable for all patients, regardless of their background or socio-economic status. She is dedicated to teaching emergency care practices at all levels, with a focus on improving overall outcomes for the patient population she serves.
